Wednesday 20th August 2008
Facilitated by: Dr Geoff Cockfield, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Business, University of Southern Queensland
Doing economic development at a regional level is hard. Resources are limited, there are multiple and competing players and organisational and economic developments rarely align. This means regional economic development practitioners must be proactive, strategic and innovative. They need to define problems and goals appropriate for the region and to develop and implement plans that provide a competitive advantage.
This workshop will introduce you to a model of the regional economic development process which identifies the critical factors in the process. In particular it covers the factors that need to be considered in preparing or commissioning the preparation of a regional economic development strategy. The workshop will also draw attention to recent thinking and literature on regional development and provide a basis for you to further your understanding of the economic development process.
