Study Tour 1

Regional Development – Developing Strategies and Partnerships

This study tour takes in several key projects that are part of AlburyCity’s strategic vision to achieve the dynamic and sustainable growth of the City.  Projects include the Cultural Precinct, and new retail and commercial developments in the CBD.

We also visit Council’s successful ventures into industrial real estate and Wonga Wetlands, where waste water is used to rejuvenate the Murray River wetlands.

At Charles Sturt University’s Thurgoona Campus we shall see the university buildings which have been built in an environmentally sensitive way – from site planning to selection of materials. Special features of the site include the minimal use of energy and on-site management of water and waste over the 87-hectare site.

At Malibu, we shall see the manufacture of speed boats, from fibreglass in the drums to vinyl on the seats.

Study Tour 2
Regional Manufacturing – Regionally Made, Globally Available

This tour visits Albury’s Intermodal Hub under construction.  The hub is located on the Melbourne – Sydney rail line, 10km from the Albury CBD.

We then inspect the nearby Norske Skog Paper Mill and Overall Forge.  The Norske Skog newsprint mill has recently undergone a $130 million upgrade to increase production capacity by more than 20%. It now produces over 90% of Australia’s newsprint.  Overall Forge is Australia’s largest forge and exports over 3000 tonnes of product annually.  You will have the opportunity to see the furnaces in action and the forging process.

The tour travels to Charles Sturt University, where we inspect the acclaimed environmentally designed Campus.

We travel to Malibu to see the manufacture of these renowned speed boats, from the fibreglass to completion and distribution around Australia and to the SE Asian market.

These tours will conclude in time for tour participants to catch evening flights on all carriers.
